Awaiting Your Return From Shore

 Menorca (or Minorca) is the most easterly of the Balearic islands. The capital of Menorca is Mahon, a town known since antiquity for its natural harbor.
  As a result of the Spanish War of Succession, Menorca passed to the English Crown. Together with Gibraltar it was England's reward for accepting the Bourbon Felip V as king. English rule lasted for nearly a century. Many traces of this period remain, particularly in the design of the tall houses with their sash windows overlooking the harbor.

Pier Information
The ship is scheduled to dock at Muelle Comercial de Pasajeros at the port of Mahon. The distance to the old town is less than half a mile. Taxis are generally available on the pier.

Shopping
 The best shopping is found in the downtown area as well as at the market stalls under the arcades of the old convent. Shop for ceramics, resort wear, shoes, costume jewelry and local cheese. The Xoriguer Gin Distillery is located near the pier. Some shops may close between 1:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Cuisine
Fresh clams are greatly appreciated, as is caldereta, a casserole of fish or lobster. Local cooking includes baked aubergines and partridge with cabbage. Pastries and puddings are favorite desserts, along with local cheese and Menorcan ice creams.

Other Sights
Santa Maria Church. Located in the Plaza de la Constitucion, this church was founded in 1287 and rebuilt in neo-classical style in the 1700's. Music festivals feature its 19th-century organ, one of the world’s largest, with 3,004 pipes.
Beaches. Sa Mesquida and Cala del Pilar are the two best beaches. Caution: at times there may be strong currents or undertows.
Golf. Club Son Parc Menorca is in a large holiday complex situated on the Northern Coast between Fornells and Arenal d’en Castell. The golf course features 9 holes.
